I was delighted to attend the ‘Building and Architect of the Year Awards’ 2017 which took place in the Mansion House last night. The event was full of inspiring builds and eager architects all hoping to win an award in their relevant categories. The atmosphere was electric and comedian Colm O’Regan was an excellent host ensuring the evening was a great success.
There were many awards covering categories such as retail, residential, medical and health, sustainability, multi-discipline, conservation, refurbishment, extensions, education etc. Here’s a quick look at some of the winners.
Winner of the Overall ‘Building of the Year’ went to McCauley Daye OConnell Architects who designed the ‘Elizabeths Tree House’ at Barretstown.
Other lucky winners included DMVF Architects who were presented with the House Extension Refurbishment Award 2017 for their project ‘Another Level Living’.
The Building of the Year-Retail award went to Urban-Agency for their ‘Shoe Shelf Shop’ in Neumünster, Germany.
The Outstanding Contribution to Architecture Award went to Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects for their out standing contribution to architecture in Ireland and abroad. They have also recently been invited to be the curators of the next Venice Biennale Architecture Exhibition in 2018 which is an amazing achievement and a fantastic opportunity showcase our talented Irish Architects.
